Andreu Ripoll i Muntaner (* 1933 in Barcelona ; † January 22, 2017 in Palma ) was a Spanish engineer .

Life

Andreu Ripoll i Muntaner, who comes from a family with Mallorcan roots, grew up in Barcelona, ​​but moved to the Spanish Mediterranean island of Mallorca at a young age . He studied engineering and went to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland , USA . From 1965 to 1968 he was the engineer in charge of installing the Hawk missiles in Spain. Later, he served as Deputy Director and Head of Department for maintenance and operations for the bodies of NASA in Madrid responsible. In this role he was involved in the Apollo , Skylab and Apollo Soyuz projects . From 1988 to 1994 he headed the European Astronaut Center in Cologne and was responsible for the selection and training of European astronauts.
