Andreua Fornells i Vilar , also Andrea Fornells i Vilar , (* 1890 in Barcelona ; † October 18, 1967 ibid) was a Catalan soprano and music teacher . She specialized in the Catalan and Spanish art song repertoire.

life and work

Andreua Fornells studied with Antoni Nicolau , Lluís Millet and Elisa Vázquez at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona . Her specialty was singing.

In 1915 she won a recruitment competition at the Municipal Conservatory and from that point on taught singing there. As a singer she specialized in the song repertoire and became a soprano soloist with Orfeó Català . She regularly wrote the specialist articles for the concerts of this choir.

In 1921 she took part in the first performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion in Spain at the Palau de la Música Catalana under Lluís Millet. She worked regularly with the Quartet Renaixement de Barcelona . She often interpreted songs by Manuel de Falla and Joan Lamote de Grignon . Their lectures were often accompanied by these two composers themselves.

She was the sister of the composer Francesc Fornells (1887–1962). She was married to the baritone and soloist of Orfeó Català Joan Sayós .
