Andrew Keith Paul Morton (* 1959 in England ) is one of the most prominent Linux kernel - developers . He studied electrical engineering at the University of New South Wales . Today he lives in California , USA .

With the release of the stable 2.6 kernel by Linus Torvalds , Andrew Morton has been appointed official maintainer and is responsible for the maintenance of the corresponding kernel series. Andrew Morton also maintained an alternative Linux kernel version (called mm-tree ) and patches for the main kernel until September 2007 . They were mostly equipped with the latest extensions and serve as a test version for the main kernel.

In the late 1980s was Morton shareholders and employees of a company that in Sydney ( Australia ) Applix-1616 - Computer produced and the associated Unix-like operating system 1616 / OS developed. After graduating from the University of New South Wales , Morton and his family moved to Palo Alto , California in 2001 , where he joined Moxi Digital Inc. At the beginning of July 2003 he joined the Open Source Development Labs . In contrast to Linus Torvalds, Morton was not an employee of the OSDL, but had his job with the company Digeo. On August 1, 2006, he switched to the Internet company Google Inc. Morton continues to work on the development of the Linux kernel for his new employer.
