Andrew Dickson Murray (born February 19, 1812 in Edinburgh , † January 10, 1878 in Kensington (London) ) was a Scottish botanist , zoologist and biogeographer . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " A.Murray bis ". The abbreviation “ A.Murr. " in use.

Live and act

In 1857 Murray became professor of natural history at New College, Edinburgh and in the same year a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh . In 1858 and 1859 he was President of the Botanical Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Physical Society. After moving to London in 1861, he became a member of the Linnean Society of London and Deputy Secretary of the Royal Horticultural Society , of which he was elected Scientific Director in 1877.

For the Horticultural Society he put on a collection of harmful and beneficial insects in 1868 and published the results of this research in 1877.
