Andrew R. Brodbeck

Andrew R. Brodbeck (born April 11, 1860 in Jefferson , York County , Pennsylvania , †  February 27, 1937 in Hanover , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1919 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

Andrew Brodbeck attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. Between 1878 and 1880 he was a teacher in York County. In 1880 he moved to Hanover, where he traded in farm supplies and manure until 1896. Between 1896 and 1899 he served as a sheriff in York County. After that he was a board member at various companies. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1910 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

In the 1912 congressional election , Brodbeck was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 20th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Daniel F. Lafean on March 4, 1913 . Since he lost to Cyrus William Beales in 1914 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1915. In the elections of 1916 Brodbeck was re-elected to the House of Representatives in the 20th district of his state, where he replaced Beales on March 4, 1917. Since he was not re-elected in 1918, he could only spend one term there until March 3, 1919. During this time the First World War fell .

In 1920, Andrew Brodbeck attended the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco as a delegate . Then he withdrew from politics. He died on February 27, 1937 in Hanover, where he was buried.
