Edward Schroeder Brooks (born June 14, 1867 in York , Pennsylvania , †  July 12, 1957 ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1923 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Brooks attended his home public schools, the York County Academy and the York Collegiate Institute . He then worked in various industries such as banking, the steel trade or the construction business. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1897 and 1902 he was a member of York City Council; from 1903 to 1905 he was a chamberlain in York County . In 1917 and 1918 he sat on the state executive committee of his party.

In the 1918 congressional election , Brooks was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 20th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Andrew R. Brodbeck on March 4, 1919 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1923 . During his tenure in Congress, the 18th and 19th amendments were ratified.

In 1922 Edward Brooks renounced another candidacy. Between 1925 and 1931 he was a postman in York. Since 1937 he worked in the clothing industry. He died in his hometown of York on July 12, 1957 at the age of 90.
