Andrzej Kopiczyński (born April 15, 1934 in Międzyrzec Podlaski , Poland ; † October 13, 2016 in Warsaw , Poland) was a Polish theater and film actor .

Live and act

Kopiczyński graduated from the State University of Film, Television and Theater "Leon Schiller" in Łódź until 1958 . He then began his acting career at the Stefan Jaracz Theater in Olsztyn (1958–1960). This was followed by engagements at the Współczesny Theater in Bydgoszcz from 1960 to 1961 and at the Teatr Polski in Szczecin, the former Stettin , from 1961 to 1962 , where he, after an interlude at the Baltic Theater in Koszalin in the 1962/63 season, again from 1963 to 1970 was engaged. He made the career leap to the capital Warsaw in 1970, first to the Ateneum Theater and then to the Polish National Theater . From 1979 to 1982, Kopiczyński moved to the Rozmaitości Theater in Warsaw. He then worked at the Teatr na Woli (theater in Warsaw-Wola ) until 1986 . This was followed by a longer engagement from 1986 to 2011 at the Kwadrat Theater in Warsaw.

Parallel to the theater, Kopiczyński also worked as a film and television actor from 1958 and celebrated international success in these roles. In 1973 he played the role of "Viktorin" in the literary film adaptation The Elixirs of the Devil based on the novel by ETA Hoffmann , directed by Ralf Kirsten , a co-production of the ČSSR with the GDR . In the same year he took on the leading role of Copernicus in the eponymous film by Ewa and Czeslaw Petelski, another co-production, this time by GDR and Poland. His acting skills won over the GDR press. Kopiczyński achieved international fame with his leading role in both GDR television (18 episodes in 2 seasons; 1975–1977 and 1993–1994) as well as in the ARD (13 episodes) broadcast Stefek, the Forty Year Old ( Czterdziestolatek ).

Andrzej Kopiczyński, who was awarded numerous Polish prizes, died on October 13, 2016 in Warsaw.
