Stefan Jaracz Theater (Olsztyn)
The Stefan Jaracz Theater ( Polish Teatr im. Stefana Jaracza ; 1925–1945: Treudank Theater , 1945: Teatr Warmii i Mazur ) is a theater in Olsztyn .
history
The theater was founded in 1925 on the initiative of Max Worgitzki as a thank you for the result of the vote on remaining with East Prussia under the name Treudank-Theater . Minister of Education Carl Heinrich Becker , Max von Rupert and Georg Zülch were present at the opening ceremony . Up until 1945, in addition to plays, operas and operettas were performed in German here.
On November 18, 1945, the play Moralność pani Dulskiej by Gabriela Zapolska , directed by Artur Młodnicki, was performed in the now Polish Theater of Warmia and Masuria ( Teatr Warmii i Mazur ) . In 1946 it was renamed the Stefan Jaracz Theater. The first director was Aleksander Sewruk until 1969 . Right from the start, the theater also performed guest performances in the region and in the neighboring voivodeships .
Until the end of the 1960s, it retained the character of a provincial theater, in which mainly realistic and psychological plays were staged.
Until 1975 the theater also had a second house in Elbląg , which is now maintained in Mrągowo .
In 1989 Zbigniew Marek Hass took over the management of the theater.
In 1991, the Aleksander Sevruk Drama School for high school graduates ( Policealne Studium Aktorskie im. Aleksandra Sevruka ) began its activity at the theater , and was directed by Zbigniew Marek Hass.
In 1995 Adam Hanuszkiewicz staged a revue performance of Moralność pani Dulskiej to mark the 50th anniversary of the Polish theater .
Janusz Kijowski has been artistic director since 2004 .
From 2010 to 2014 the theater was modernized and expanded.
Stages
The Stefan Jaracz Theater has four stages: the main stage ( Scena Duża ), the chamber stage ( Scena Kameralna ), the edge stage ( Scena Margines ) and the stage near Sewruk ( Scena u Sewruka ).

Karol Adwentowicz , Stanisław Igar , Maria Homerska , Jan Kurnakowicz , Stanisław Milski , Hanna Skarżanka , Janusz Strachocki and Eugenia Śnieżko-Szafnaglowa played in the first Polish ensemble .
