Andy Fitzgerald (* 1915 or 1916; † April 7, 2003 ) was an American jazz musician ( clarinet , flute , saxophone , also vocals ).

Live and act

Andy Fitzgerald began his career as a musician in the big band of Frank Dailey . From 1940 he played with Bunny Berigan (" I Can't Get Started "), in 1943 with Coleman Hawkins . Between 1946 and 1948 he was a member of Joe Mooney's quartet and was then a member of the Vaughn Monroe Orchestra until its dissolution in 1953 . In the 1950s he appeared on Jack Sterling's radio show on CBS, the studio band was directed by Elliot Lawrence . After the show was canceled, he was a member of the Arthur Godfrey Show studio band . Recordings were made during this time with Elliot Lawrence, Kent Harian, Claude Thornhill ( Claude on a Cloud , 1958). Jackie Gleason , Count Basie ( Basie with Strings , 1960), Hal Mooney , Jimmy & Marian McPartland ( Play TV Themes , 1960) and again in 1962 with Joe Mooney, accompanied by the Mundell Lowe Orchestra. In 1963/64 he recorded with the Gil Evans Orchestra ( The Individualism of Gil Evans and Guitar Forms ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 43 recording sessions between 1940 and 1969, most recently in the backing bands of Joe Williams (1965) and Marlene VerPlanck (1968/69). In his later years he worked as a theater musician and freelance musician.
