The Eberhard Diepgen Prize for social cohesion is a long-November 2018 annually conferred price of the CDU Berlin . It is intended to honor and promote commitment that has rendered outstanding services to social cohesion in Berlin.

The idea of ​​the award goes back to an initiative of the state minister for culture and the CDU state chairman in Berlin at the time, Monika Grütters , who presented it to the CDU state executive with Secretary General Stefan Evers during a closed meeting on March 9, 2018 in Nauen, Brandenburg . On the same day, the committee decided to offer the award.

Namesake of the award: Eberhard Diepgen (2016)

According to the CDU, the primary aim of the award is to take up historical political priorities again and, in particular, to support and praise social and societal commitment within Berlin as a core principle of cohesion. Leading CDU politicians implemented a similar idea after the end of the war with the creation of the Union Aid .

The prize is endowed with 5000 euros, whereby the rule was created that the awardees have to invest the money back in the winning project.

The namesake and patron is the long-time former governing mayor Eberhard Diepgen, who also acted as parliamentary group and state chairman and has been honorary chairman of the CDU Berlin since 2004 . As namesake, Diepgen is also to be recognized for his services as a member of the Advisory Board for Cohesion, in which he campaigned for humane solutions for the accommodation of refugees during the refugee crisis in Germany in 2015/2016 .

The Eberhard Diepgen Prize, which is financially supported by Spreebogen Grundbesitz GmbH, was awarded for the first time on November 19, 2018 as part of an evening event in Schloss Friedrichsfelde .
