Andy Hunter (born July 30, 1979 in Grayling , Michigan ) is an American jazz trombonist , composer , arranger and music teacher .

Live and act

Andy Hunter grew up in Michigan , later lived in Cleveland and Shanghai , and since 2004 in Brooklyn . He received his Bachelor in Jazz and Chinese from Oberlin College (studied with Robin Eubanks ) and his Masters in Jazz from Rutgers University , where he studied with Conrad Herwig . In New York he has worked in several big bands since 2004 , including the Toshiko Akiyoshi / Lew Tabackin Big Band, Dave Holland Big Band, Tommy Igoes Birdland Big Band , Travis Sullivans Björkestra, the Mingus Big Band and Orrin Evans ' Captain Black Big Band . He also played with Richard Bona , Nnenna Freelon and TS Monk . In 2012 he released the album Think Like a Mountain under his own name , on which u. a. Dave Kikoski and Alex Sipiagin contributed. From autumn of the same year he belonged to the WDR Big Band Cologne . Hunter has taught at the jazz faculty at Tri-C College in Cleveland and Rutgers University in New Jersey.
