Johan Hörlén

Johan Hörlén (born September 24, 1967 in Växjö ) is a Swedish jazz musician ( alto saxophone , clarinet , composition).

Hörlén began playing the clarinet at the age of eight; from the age of eleven he also turned to the alto saxophone. From 1986 to 1990 he studied classical and jazz saxophone at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm .

He has been a member of the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra since 1988 and its 1st alto since 1995. He also worked with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and the Norrbotten Big Band . Since 2011 he has been a soloist in the WDR Big Band Cologne . With this ensemble and his own bands he toured through North and Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and most of Europe. He presented two albums under his own name with the record company Dragon Records , Dance of Resistance and Chills . As a guest or sideman , he is involved in almost 100 productions, for example with Joakim Milder , Stina Nordenstam , Anders Widmark , Peter Asplund and Lennart Åberg / Peter Erskine .

Hörlén taught at the Stockholm Conservatory.
