Ange Paulin Terver (born October 4, 1789 in Lyon , † August 15, 1875 in Fontaines-sur-Saône ) was a French malacologist and conchylia collector.

Life

Terver took an early interest in entomology . He was supposed to be a pioneer officer and engineer, but had to leave school at the age of 14 after his father lost his fortune in a shipwreck. After that he worked hard in Lyon to support the family. Besides, he became a leading malacologists with a large collection (originally land and freshwater mollusks , and later marine exotic ones). He came into contact with leading malacologists, for example with the well-known collector Gaspard Louis André Michaud . He had to sell his first large collection for financial reasons.

Terver was from 1849 to 1872 curator of the zoological collection of the Linnaeus Society of Lyon ( Société linnéenne de Lyon ). From 1853 to 1869 he was secretary of the Soil Commission of the Société d'agriculture de Lyon .

A collection of terrestrial and freshwater snails from Tervier bought the museum in Marseille ( Musée de Marseille ). After his death, the family donated his Conchylia collection of 22,000 to the Natural History Museum in Lyon. Arnould Locard published a catalog of his terrestrial and freshwater snail collection from the area of ​​Lyon in 1877. In 1839 Terver published a catalog of terrestrial mollusks from French North Africa ( Catalog des Mollusques terrestres et fluviatiles observés dans les possessions françaises du nord de l'Afrique . Lyon). He also added tables on the natural history of terrestrial mollusks by Gaspard Louis André Michaud ( Histoire naturelle des Mollusques terrestres et fluviatiles de la France ) in 1831 , published on fossils in loess ( Notes sur les fossiles du lehm , 1860) and on land snails of the Helix genus .
