Angelika Kraus (born May 9, 1950 in Celle ) is a former German swimmer who won an Olympic bronze medal with the individual relay relay in 1968.

Career

Angelika Kraus first swam for Celler SC , but then switched to Wasserfreunde Wuppertal . In 1968 , 1969 and 1970 she became German champion over 100 meters and 200 meters back, in 1971 another title over 200 meters back followed.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , the German 4 x 100 meter individual medley relay with Angelika Kraus, Uta Frommater , Heike Hustede and Heidemarie Reineck won bronze behind the relays from the United States in 4: 36.4 minutes and Australia . Angelika Kraus also started on both back stretches, but could not qualify for the finals. In 1970 she set a new European record of 2: 27.1 minutes on the 200-meter back distance . At the European Championships in Barcelona in 1970 , however, she again won a medal only with the layer relay, the team was third behind the relays from the GDR and the Soviet Union in the same line-up as in 1968 . In 1972 Angelika Kraus was able to qualify again for the Olympic Games , but she was eliminated in Munich on both back legs in the preliminary run.

For her services to sport in Lower Saxony , she was included in the Lower Saxony Sports Honor Gallery of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History.
