Angelika Werthmann

Angelika Werthmann (born November 7, 1963 in Schwarzach im Pongau ; † October 17, 2019 ) was an Austrian politician and a member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2014 .

education and profession

Werthmann studied philology at the Paris-Lodron University in Salzburg and holds the title of Magister in this subject . From 1989 she worked as a teacher in the school system, later as a translator and interpreter in the fields of business, medicine and tourism.

politics

In the European elections in Austria in 2009 , she ran for third place on the list of Dr. Martin and like the other members of this list does not belong to any political group in the European Parliament . According to press reports, Werthmann is said to have been presented with a waiver by other members of the List Martin, according to which she should waive her mandate for the first half of the legislative period. Werthmann is said to have refused to sign the waiver. In July 2010, she resigned after conflicts with Hans-Peter Martin , whom she accused of lack of transparency in terms of party finances, from the Delegation of the list Dr. Martin out.

In May 2012 Werthmann was accused by five former employees of workplace bullying . A year earlier, she had initiated a written statement against bullying together with Evelyn Regner (SPÖ) and Ulrike Lunacek (Greens).

On July 5, 2012, Werthmann joined the Liberal Group of the European Parliament . The Liberal Forum Austria planned to run with Werthmann as the top candidate in the 2014 European elections. On March 27, 2014 it was announced that Werthmann would run for the BZÖ in the 2014 EU election . Thereupon she was excluded by the Liberal Group, which refuses to cooperate with the BZÖ. With 0.5%, it clearly failed to make it into the European Parliament again.

Working in Parliament

In the European Parliament , she was a member of the Committee on Petitions , the Committee on Budgets and the delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia. She was also an alternate member of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality . Since autumn 2009 Werthmann has been a member of the High-level contact group for Relations with the Turkish Cypriot Community in the Northern Part of the Island (CYTR) .
