Angelika von Hörmann

Angelika von Hörmann , née Emilie Geiger , married Emilie Hörmann von Hörbach , also: Angelica ( pseudonym ) (born  April 28, 1843 in Innsbruck ; † February 23, 1921 there ) was an Austrian poet .

Life

Emilie was the daughter of the financial lawyer Mathias Geiger (1802-1858) and Henriette Benz von Albkron (?? † 1849). After her father died, she grew up with an aunt. Already in her youth she occupied herself with literature, her first poems, which were later partly set to music, were published in 1863 in the almanac “Frühblumen aus Tirol” for the first time under the artist name Angelica . This work was published by her sponsor, the cultural historian Ludwig Hörmann von Hörbach , whom she married in 1865. She lived with him from 1872 to 1883 in Klagenfurt , then in Graz and from 1877 back in Innsbruck. Hörmann had five children, but only three of them survived childhood. From 1903 to 1917 she was the only woman on the Tyrolean censorship board.

With over 500 poems, verses and romantic stories, Hörmann was considered the most important Tyrolean poet of her time. Her circle of friends included Peter Rosegger , Balthasar Hunold , Julius von Ficker , Adolf Pichler , Karl Schönherr and Rudolf Greinz . The playwright Franz Kranewitter gave Hörmann's funeral speech, in which he described her as “the first Tyrolean woman with a truly national feeling”.
