Angtoria is a Swedish - British symphonic metal band.

Band history

The band was founded in 2001 by Sarah Jezebel Deva and Chris Rehn, originally a purely orchestral project was planned. A year later a first demo was created. With the entry of Tommy Rehn, Chris Rehn's brother, as the second guitarist , the band's music developed into metal with symphonic elements. In 2005 the band signed a contract with Listenable Records . Dave Pybus, like Sarah Deva a member of Cradle of Filth and also active at Anathema at times , joined Angtoria as bassist . In November 2005 the band started recording their debut album at Sidelake Studios in Sundsvall , drummers Andreas Brobjer and Richard Andersson on keyboards helped out as studio musicians, and Aaron Stainthorpe from My Dying Bride was a guest singer. After the recordings, John Henriksson from My Own Grave joined Angtoria as a drummer. The debut album God Has a Plan for Us All was released in April 2006, with a video directed by Måns Berthas for the title track. One of the songs on this album was called Confide In Me, and it is a cover version of a song by Kylie Minogue from 1994.

No other titles have been produced since the debut album in 2006, but Sarah J. Deva said in an interview in September 2010 that Angtoria are still together, but that they are now concentrating first on her solo project Sarah Jezebel Deva, with which she also does the Angotoria songs playing live.

style

Angtoria plays typical symphonic metal with female vocals, orchestral and choir parts and catchy melodies. The All Music Guide highlights the extensive use of orchestral voices, putting Angtoria in line with Rhapsody of Fire , After Forever, and Dimmu Borgir , while Vampster criticizes the band for “compared to other symphonic metal bands with a front lady are, […] hardly [stands out] ”( Christian Wögerbauer for Vampster ). The two online magazines also differ when it comes to assessing the singing; While All Music Guide Sarah Jezebel Deva admits that she would “exactly meet the vocal needs of each song, both technically and emotionally, without ever falling into the operatic boasting of her diva-like colleagues”, Vampster criticizes that she would “incessantly in an identical way the ears [flattering] ”. Stefan Popp from Metal1.info also wants a bit more variety in the vocals, but generally rates him as good.
