Anifer explanation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Anifer declaration was the release of Bavarian officials and soldiers from the oath of allegiance to the king by King Ludwig III . It took place on November 12, 1918 after the proclamation of the Free State of Bavaria in the moated castle Anif near Salzburg and was announced on November 13 in Munich .

history

King Ludwig III. In view of the revolution in Bavaria, he first fled to Wildenwart Castle , then to the Hintersee in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden and finally to Austria to Schloss Anif near Salzburg, as the king's safety was not guaranteed in Munich, Wildenwart Castle or on Hintersee. The Anifer Castle was owned by the Bavarian Reichsrat Ernst Graf von Moy.

Ludwig III. appointed the former chairman of the Council of Ministers , Otto von Dandl , to Anif Palace near Salzburg on November 12, 1918 . Dandl asked the king to renounce the throne . Ludwig was not ready for that. On that day, however, he released the Bavarian officials and soldiers from the oath of loyalty they had taken on him, as he was no longer able to continue to lead the government . With this aniferous declaration , Dandl returned to Munich on November 13, 1918. The new Bavarian government of Kurt Eisner (USPD) published this declaration on November 13, 1918, together with an explanation in which it took note of the king's "renunciation" of the throne. In fact, however, neither the king nor any other member of the Wittelsbach family ever renounced the Bavarian throne.

The original document is lost today. According to a report by the Bavarian monarchist Erwein von Aretin , the then Interior Minister Erhard Auer (MSPD) kept Ludwig's declaration with him out of distrust of Eisner. The original was lost when his apartment was devastated during the Hitler coup . In the “Foreign Ministry” holdings of the Bavarian Main State Archives there is only a typewritten copy with Kurt Eisner's handwritten interpretation as a renunciation of the throne.

text

I have worked with and for the people throughout my life. Caring for the well-being of my beloved Bavaria has always been my highest aspiration.

After the events of the last few days mean that I am no longer in a position to continue running the government, I am releasing all civil servants, officers and soldiers to continue working under the given circumstances and release them from the oath of loyalty given to me.

Anif November 13, 1918.

Ludwig
