Pantelimon is a town in Ilfov County in Romania . The name refers to the Saint Pantaleon .
location
Pantelimon is located in Little Wallachia on the Colentina River , on the eastern outskirts of Bucharest . The center of the Romanian capital is located about 10 km from Pantelimon.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1660. It remained quite insignificant for a long time until Bucharest continued to expand from around 1900 and Pantelimon became a suburb of this city. Especially after the Second World War, industrial companies were settled. Shopping centers have sprung up since the 1990s. Many residents of Bucharest moved to the suburbs - including Pantelimon - so that the population here, in contrast to most other regions of the country, has increased. In a referendum in 2003, the vast majority of residents voted for the community to become a city. In 2005 this request was implemented.

In the 2002 census, 16,019 inhabitants were registered in the city, including 15,067 Romanians , 896 Roma and 29 Hungarians .
