The Colentina is a small river in southern Romania , which rises about 50 kilometers northwest of Bucharest in the foothills of the Southern Carpathians and flows through the northern districts of the Romanian capital.

In the urban area it forms numerous formerly marshy lakes, which were fortified in the 1930s and integrated into newly created parks. From northwest to southeast these are the Lacul Mogoșoaia , Lacul Străulești , Lacul Grivița , Băneasa , Herăstrău , Floreasca , Tei , Plumbuita , Fundeni , Pantelimon and the Lacul Cernica .

A few kilometers east of Bucharest the Colentina flows into the Dâmbovița .
