Voluntari is a town in Ilfov County in Great Wallachia in Romania .
location
Voluntari is located on the northeastern outskirts of Bucharest . The center of the Romanian capital is about 6 km away.
history
Voluntari was founded after the First World War through the influx of war veterans. A few smaller villages in the area were incorporated and are no longer official districts.
Due to the proximity of the capital, Voluntari enjoyed a rapid upswing. After the Second World War , light industry developed . In the 1990s, Voluntari became the location of several wholesale markets.
In 2004 the place got the status of a city.
The name of the city means something like "volunteer" and is dedicated to those Romanians who left Transylvania between 1916 and 1918 to join the Romanian army to join their home in Romania.

According to the results of the 2002 census, about 97.5% of Voluntari is inhabited by Romanians . In addition, 505 people identified themselves as Roma . The remaining 220 inhabitants were distributed among numerous other nationalities (including 9 German).

The Bucharest – Constanța railway and European route 60 run through Voluntari . Pantelimon train station is located on the south-eastern outskirts of the city. There are good bus connections to Bucharest.
