Anil Kapoor (born December 24, 1956 in Mumbai , India ) is an Indian actor and producer .

life and career

He achieved initial success in 1984 with his role in Yash Chopra's drama Mashaal , for which he received a Filmfare Award for best supporting actor , and for Shekhar Kapur's science fiction film Mr. India in 1987. Anil Kapoor received the Filmfare Award for best leading actor 1988 for N. Chandras Tezaab Is Acid and 1992 for Indra Kumars Beta .

His first role in an international film was that of Prem Kumar, the host of the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle . In the 8th season of the American TV series 24 , Anil Kapoor played the head of state of the fictional Islamic state of Kamistan called Omar Hassan, who wants to conclude a peace agreement with the American president and is to be prevented from doing so by a plot. In 2011, he starred opposite Paula Patton and Tom Cruise in the action film Mission: Impossible - Phantom Protocol .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
