Animatronic is the third studio album by the Norwegian metal band The Kovenant . It was released by Nuclear Blast in 1999 .

Creation and publication

style

With the name change and the line-up changes, there was a strong stylistic development, because Animatronic leaves the black metal roots of the band even further behind than Nexus Polaris . The change between idiosyncratic croaking and operatic singing, occasionally also between melodic guitars and keyboards, is maintained, but “[m] usically, […] KOVENANT move between Sisters Of Mercy , Tiamat , Marilyn Manson , Die Krupps and Dimmu Borgir and throw one great crossover of goth , industrial and metal in the balance. "

reception

The album received mostly positive reviews. Carsten Kleine from Rock Hard criticizes “the silly and flat cover version of the Babylon Zoo hit”, but praises the band's new style and thinks “THE KOVENANT really have something to say and can write great songs.” Tak von vampster says: “ If Captain Future did metal, that's what it would sound like! Ziggy Stardust in Hell, so to speak! […] Here, what does not seem to belong together grows together. ”On metal.de , Animatronic is described as“ [d] crazy but nevertheless well thought out ”and“ the best that the band has delivered so far ”. Like Nexus Polaris , this album was also awarded the Spellemann Prize.
