Anish Sharda (born August 8,  1982 in Los Angeles ) is an American / German basketball player of Indian descent. The 1.86-meter point guard is part of the contingent of MTB Baskets Hanover.

career

The son of Indian parents grew up in Simi Valley  in the US state of California  . Between 2001 and 2003 Sharda played for the team of the Californian Moorpark College, followed by two years (2003-2005) at the University of Mary in the city of Bismarck in North Dakota . For the Mary University team from the second division of the NAIA , he played a total of 60 missions and achieved mean values of 15.7 points, 2.8 assists in basket, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 ball wins per game.

Sharda gained his first experience as a professional basketball player in the US league ABA in the shirt of the Anderson Champions, a team from the state of Indiana . For the 2007/08 season he was signed by the German regional league club ASC Theresianum Mainz  and led the team to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . He was then named the best player of the 2007/08 season in the 1st Regionalliga Südwest by the internet service eurobasket.com . After another year in Mainz, during which Sharda was also an ASC player in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB, he was signed by USC Freiburg ( 2nd Bundesliga ProA ) in the run-up to the 2009/10 season .

A year in the second highest German league was followed by four seasons with the TG Hanau . Sharda was named “Player of the Year” of the 1. Regionalliga Südwest by eurobasket.com for the second time , after leading the Hessians to promotion to the 2. Bundesliga ProB in spring 2011. At the end of the 2013/14 season, his contract in Hanau ended, in December 2014 he joined TV Langen  and played for the team in the ProB until the end of the 2014/15 season.

In 2015 he returned to the ASC Theresianum Mainz and thus to the hometown of his wife, the former ASC player Cornelia Berkhoff. In addition to his duties as a player, he worked as a youth coach and from the 2015/16 season was head coach of the SG RheinHessen team, a Mainz-Wiesbaden syndicate, in the youth basketball league . He held this office until 2017.

In October 2017, Sharda took German citizenship.

In mid-December 2018 Sharda left the ASC Theresianum Mainz and used an exit option to join the Dragons Rhöndorf from the 2nd Bundesliga ProB. In the previous course of the 2018/19 season, he had led the ASC with an average of 21.2 points per encounter. In Rhöndorf he received a contract until 2020 and agreed with the "Dragons" to get involved in youth work. In July 2020 the Dragons Rhöndorf announced Sharda's departure.

Sharda then joined the regional league team MTB Baskets Hannover for the 2020/21 season and, in addition to his playing activities, became coach of the second men's team at Lower Saxony.
