Anke Katrin Eißmann (* 1977 in Dillenburg ) is a German illustrator and graphic designer who became known among other things for her illustrations of JRR Tolkien's fantasy world. She studied visual communication at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and the Colchester Institute in Colchester ( England ) . She works full-time as an art teacher in Herborn .

Work

Eißmann's first inspirations came from the works of JRR Tolkien , such as the Silmarillion and the Lord of the Rings . In 2009 she announced in an interview that her first encounter with Tolkien's subject matter was the cartoon The Lord of the Rings by Ralph Bakshi , which she first saw in 1991. She then read the corresponding book by Tolkien and immediately began to illustrate scenes that had been read. While studying in Weimar, she published her drawings on the Internet, which brought her into contact with artists such as Ted Nasmith . According to his own statements, Eißmann is also inspired by "the Pre-Raphaelites, book illustrators like Arthur Rackham , Edmond Dulac, Ivan Bilibin and Alan Lee , Art Nouveau , artists like Edward Hopper and Jan Vermeer ".

Besides the fiction of JRR Tolkien, Eißmann's works deal mainly with mythological and historical subjects.
