Life, family and work

Anna-Maria Steiger was born as the only daughter and the fourth of five children of the evangelical pastor of Gebesee, Herbert Steiger, and his wife Annemarie Steiger (née Neubauer). After graduating from high school in Gotha, she completed a three-year training course as a sculpture restorer in the church workshops in Erfurt. In 1963 she married the pastor Rüdiger Meussling and moved with him to Baben near Stendal. The couple have two daughters and a son, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In 1967 she founded her own workshop. In 1973 the family moved to Plötzky near Magdeburg, where they are still at home today. During the restoration of the village church in the neighboring town of Pretzien, she discovered hitherto unknown wall paintings from around 1220. In 1982 she was accepted into the Association of Fine Artists and in 1990 into the Association of Restorers (RFV), which was merged into the Association of Restorers (VDR) in 2001. During the planning of the Romanesque Road , she advised the responsible Ministry of Economics in Saxony-Anhalt on route guidance.

Together with her husband, she organized the Pretzien Music Summer in the St. Thomas Church in Pretzien from 1974 to 2014 .

Anna-Maria Meussling is the sister of the retired pastor and writer Friedemann Steiger and Martin Steiger and Georg Steiger - all four siblings are active in journalism.
