Anna Charlotte Amalie of Nassau-Dietz-Oranien
Anna Charlotte Amalie von Nassau-Dietz-Oranien (born October 13, 1710 in Leeuwarden ; † November 17, 1777 in Durlach ) was the wife of the Hereditary Prince Friedrich of Baden-Durlach and mother of the first Grand Duke of Baden , Karl Friedrich von Baden .
Life
Her father was Johann Wilhelm Friso von Nassau-Dietz-Oranien , governor of the Dutch province of Friesland , her mother was Marie Luise von Hessen-Kassel . The marriage with Friedrich took place on July 3, 1727 in Leeuwarden .
Because of her many outbursts of anger, it was rumored at the court of Durlach that she was insane. During her pregnancies, she bullied her servants. Another indication of her alleged mental illness is the fact that she did not shed a tear when she saw her dead husband († March 26, 1732); it was said that she was no longer there spiritually.
Her father-in-law Karl Wilhelm von Baden-Durlach did not want her mother to influence the new Hereditary Prince Karl Friedrich. Although the son and mother continued to live in the Karlsburg in Durlach, Anna Charlotte was shielded from the outside world for the rest of her life in another apartment in the Karlsburg. The upbringing of their two sons Karl Friedrich and Wilhelm Ludwig was taken over by their strict mother-in-law Magdalena Wilhelmine von Württemberg .
