Anna Maria Schuller (* 1984 in Nürnberg ) is a German jazz - singer and - songwriter , vocal coach and choir director in jazz / pop .

Growing up in Franconian Switzerland, near Nuremberg, Schuller began taking piano lessons and choir at the age of 5. Singing and church organ followed in her teens. With leading roles in musical productions such as "Line 1" and "The Secretaries" as well as participating in the national competition Jugend Musiziert in the musical category , she showed herself a. a. first as a vocal soloist.

With his first appearances with big bands and combos, jazz also played an increasingly important role: In 2004 Schuller was a member of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Harald Rüschenbaum . She began studying jazz singing at the University of Music in Würzburg, which she continued and completed from 2007 to 2010 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam . From 2007 to 2009 she was a soloist and ensemble singer in the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bill Dobbins , Ed Partyka , Jiggs Wigham and Mike Herting .

With her Amsterdam-based Anna Maria Schuller Quartet (Christian Pabst, Joao Hasselberg, Andreas Klein) she toured Germany and the Netherlands in 2009 and 2010 and played a. a. at the Jazzahead in Bremen and the nationwide jazz festival in Leipzig.

Schuller has lived and worked as a freelance musician in Cologne since 2010. There she founded the band Ana Mai ( Stefan Karl Schmidt , Philipp Brämswig , Benjamin Garcia, Oliver Rehmann ), with whom she released her debut CD "Blossom" in 2013 on Neuklang Records. In 2012 she worked with the dancer Romy Schwarzer a. a. together at the dance week in Dresden; her program “Sense of Space Meets Light Time” dealt with the fusion of contemporary dance, voice and performance.

2018-2019 Schuller took over the musical direction of the Songrise Jazz Choir Erftstadt, with which she received the award "Master Choir" at the "Sing und Swing" Festival of the NRW Choir Association in 2018. At the same time, she completed the B-license in jazz and pop choir conducting at the Bundesakademie Wolfenbüttel.

Anna Maria Schuller is the older sister of the jazz trombonist Matthias Schuller .
