Matthias Schuller

Matthias Schuller (* 1987 in Sulzbach-Rosenberg ) is a German trombonist and composer who works in both jazz and classical music .

Live and act

Schuller, whose older sister is the singer Anna Maria Schuller , received piano and recorder lessons from 1992; he also sang in the choir. In 1997 he switched to the trombone. Since 2006 he has been studying as a young student at the University of Music in Nuremberg with Silvan Koopmann . From 2008 onwards I studied instrumental at first in Nuremberg; Between 2009 and 2013 he studied jazz trombone at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Henning Berg . Since then he has been working as a freelance musician and composer and instrumental teacher in the fields of jazz, new music and improvisation music .

Schuller was involved in some world premieres of contemporary music; he played in formations such as electronic ID, mam.Manufaktur for contemporary music and the Vagrancy Ensemble ; he is a member of the EOS Chamber Orchestra Cologne . In the field of jazz he worked with his own quartet and in a duo with the pianist Jonathan Hofmeister ; he belonged to the Thoneline Orchestra and the Maxime Bender Orchestra. He was a guest in the WDR Big Band , the Sunday Night Orchestra , the Subway Jazz Orchestra , the Cologne Contemporary JazzOrchestra and the Monika Roscher Big Band. He has performed at festivals such as the Moers Festival and the Beijing Modern Music Festival . Schuller also sings in the Young Chamber Choir Cologne and in the European Chamber Choir.
