Anna Sprung started biathlon in 1989 and won four world championship titles as a junior. Her World Cup career began at the beginning of the 1996/97 season in the Biathlon World Cup in Lillehammer . The Russian was very successful straight away: after finishing 25th in the sprint, she reached 18th place in the pursuit. Jump won the next race, an individual in Östersund . The following season was the most successful for Sprung, at that time still under her maiden name Wolkowa. She had her only use at Winter Olympics in 1998 in Nagano , there took place in the sprint 44. In 1998 the last time the discharged team competition was jumping with the Russian team world champion. Already at the Biathlon World Championships in 1997 in Osrblie she was able to secure the silver medal with the team, she was also sixth in the individual, and fifth in 1999 at Holmenkollen . She started for the Russian national team until 1999, but was no longer able to qualify for the team.
Therefore, Sprung changed her nationality and started for Austria in 2001. However, she was no longer able to build on the old successes, which was not least due to the lack of competition in her own team. Between 2003 and 2005, Sprung took part in the World Championships for Austria, but never got beyond the top 20. Throughout the years she was the only Austrian biathlete who regularly participated in the World Cup and World Championships. After the 2004/05 season, she ended her career.
