Wecker was first married to Israel Aeschenberger, town clerk of Altdorf near Nuremberg. Their daughter Katharina married the scholar Nicolaus Taurellus in 1572 . After the death of her first husband, Wecker married the doctor Johann Jakob Wecker from Basel . He worked as a city physician in Colmar , where he also died. Two years after his death, Anna Wecker gave his work Antidotarium Speciale, ex. opt. authorum… scriptis fideliter congestum et amplius triente actum in Basel. Already in 1586 she appeared poetically with a wedding saying to Jacob Pömer and Barbara Löffelholtz, on whose title she describes herself as "Anna Kellerin, Doctor Hannß Jacob Wecker blessed Wittfraw".

After the death of her second husband, Wecker lived with her daughter in Altdorf near Nuremberg. In the year of her death, she finished her main work, the cookbook Ein Köstlich new cookbook , which she dedicated to Luise Juliana of Oranien-Nassau . It was the first printed cookbook in German by a woman . Katharina Taurellus published it in 1597. Reprints continued until the end of the 17th century. Together with Philippine Welser ( De re coquinaria , 1545) and Sabina Welser ( The cookbook of Sabina Welserin , 1553), Anna Wecker is one of the few women of the 16th century who are known by name who wrote cookbooks.

Individual evidence

  1. Classen gives the marriage to Israel Aeschenberger as a second marriage. However, this is not possible because Katharina married as a child together in 1572, i.e. at a time when Johann Jakob Wecker, Anna Wecker's first husband according to Classen, was still alive. The correct order of husbands is given, for example: Xaver Schmidt: Nicolaus Taurellus . Theodor Blaesing, Erlangen 1860, p. 75.
