Annamária Szalai (born September 16, 1961 in Zalaegerszeg ; † April 12, 2013 ) was a Hungarian journalist and politician for the Fidesz party - Hungarian Citizens' Union .

Career

Annamária Szalai studied business administration and education , afterwards she worked as a music teacher in a primary school in Zalaegerszeg . She began her journalistic career at the communist regional newspaper Zalai Hírlap . She later ran a concert hall and gallery. Since 2002 she has been teaching media studies at the West Hungarian University .

Political activity

Szalai was media spokeswoman for the national conservative Hungarian ruling party Fidesz and from 1998 to 2004 a member of the Hungarian parliament . In 2010 she was appointed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to head the State Media and Communication Agency , of which she was president until her death from cancer.
