Annamaria Ronchitelli

Annamaria Ronchitelli (born January 8, 1949 in Padua ) is an Italian prehistorian and professor at the University of Siena at the Dipartimento di Scienze Fisiche, della Terra e dell'Ambiente .

Ronchitelli presented her laurea in 1973 in Lettere Classiche at the University of Florence . From 1981 she worked as a scientist and since 2000 as a professor at the University of Siena. She is mainly concerned with human paleontology and anthropology . She carried out excavations in more than a hundred campaigns, primarily in the Scario and Sapri area in Campania . More extensive excavations were also found in the Apulian caves Riparo Oscurusciuto di Ginosa , Grotta di S. Croce di Bisceglie (northwest of Bari ), in front of the Grotta Paglicci , especially in the Upper Paleolithic layers, where the oldest flour can be proven and the extraction steps can be reconstructed , instead of.

Ronchitelli is the Italian representative in Commission 8 (Upper Palaeolithic Eurasia) of the Union Internationale des Sciences Préhistoriques et Protohistoriques . She is also a member of the Istituto Italiano di Preistoria e Protostoria , the Istituto Italiano di Paleontologia Umana and the Associazione Antropologica Italiana .

Her research focuses on the Middle Paleolithic in southern Italy, the transition to the Upper Paleolithic in Italy, then the Upper Paleolithic as a whole. In addition, she works on the first settlement of Calabria and the connection between lithic production and economy.
