Local politics

Anne Rodenbrock-Wesselmann came to local politics through her parents' work. In 1994 she was elected to the city council of Halle for the first time for the SPD . On July 9, 2002 she was elected mayor of Halle as a candidate of the SPD. Your opponent was Jürgen Keil ( CDU ). In 2009 she won the election clearly against the CDU opponent Fred Kupczyk. In 2007 the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia decided to merge the council and mayoral elections again in order to save money and reduce the organizational effort. In 2014, Rodenbrock-Wesselmann was one of the mayors who voluntarily shortened their term of office by one year in order to enable the joint elections in their municipality. She was re-elected for a third time on July 9, 2014. She had no opponent in this election.

As a woman with no administrative background, many were skeptical of her in 2002. Looking back, Rodenbrock-Wesselmann said in 2020 that she was not the “classic administrative woman”, but that would also have many advantages. Important topics during her term of office were the construction of the federal motorway 33 (A33) with the Halle junction, with which the federal road 68 leading through Halle could be downgraded to state road 756, the development of the intermunicipal industrial area Ravenna-Park together with the neighboring towns of Werther and Gütersloh , the Designation of new building land areas, including the Weidenkamp area, and the establishment of a comprehensive school in Halle.

For reasons of age, Anne Rodenbrock-Wesselmann will no longer stand for election in 2020. Their term of office ends on October 31, 2020.
