Annemarie Hess-Waser (born February 4, 1940 in Oberrickenbach ) is a former Swiss ski racer.

Life

Annemarie Hess-Waser grew up with 16 siblings in the Bergheimet Schmidsboden in Oberrickenbach in the canton of Nidwalden . In 1961, a year after her resignation, she married. Two of her daughters became ski racers. Annemarie Hess-Waser is the aunt of Erika Hess , who dominated alpine skiing in the 1980s. Annemarie and Erika were both members of the Ski Club Bannalp (today Ski Club Bannalp-Wolfenschiessen).

Career

Anne Marie Hess-Waser came with 14 years in the Swiss ski - National and participated in her first international race with 15 years. The Swiss ski racer Ida Schöpfer-Bieri was her great role model.

On February 3, 1958, one day before her 18th birthday, she won the bronze medal in slalom at the World Ski Championships in Bad-Gastein (behind Inger Bjørnbakken from Norway and Josefa Frandel from Austria). Five days later she was 4th in the giant slalom . Because she fell on the descent , she missed a safe medal in the alpine combination . She won a total of five FIS races (comparable to today's World Cup races), including the Hahnenkamm Slalom in Kitzbühel on January 18, 1959 .

In 1958 and 1960 she led the FIS annual list (comparable to today's annual discipline ranking) in slalom. She was also the Swiss slalom champion in 1959 and 1960. She took part in the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo and the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley . In the late 1950s and early 1960s she was considered one of the world's best slalom riders. In 1960 she ended her career at the age of 20.
