Annibale Capalti

Annibale Capalti (born January 21, 1811 in Rome , † October 18, 1877 there ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Annibale Capalti was the son of a lawyer who worked for the Sculteis Bank in Rome. He attended seminars in Volterra and Rome, where he obtained a doctorate in philosophy and theology. He then worked as an administrator at the Society for Children's Homes in Rome. In 1839 he became coadjutor with the right to succeed Giovanni Brunelli , full professor of canonical texts at the University of La Sapienza , 1840-1847 he was Brunelli's successor as professor. Capalti was canon of the chapter of Santa Maria in Trastevere . From November 1845 to March 1852 he was secretary of the Study Congregation . He was canon of the Lateran Basilica and was prefect of studies at the Seminario Romano from 1848 to 1860. In 1848 he was also a substitute minister for public education; 1851-1860 he was also a member of the State Council. From November 14, 1854 to 1861, Annibale Capalti was secretary of the Congregation for Rites and from March 30, 1861 to 1868, secretary of the Congregation Propaganda Fide .

Pope Pius IX appointed him cardinal deacon in the consistory of March 13, 1868 . On March 16 of that year he was given the cardinal's hat and the title deaconry Santa Maria in Aquiro . As a Curia Cardinal , Capalti was Prefect of the Study Congregation from January 3, 1870 until his death . He took part in the First Vatican Council in 1870 .

Annibale Capalti died in Rome and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery there.
