Annilese Miskimmon

Annilese Miskimmon (born March 8, 1974 in Belfast ) is an Irish-British opera director and artistic director.

education

Annilese Miskimmon grew up in Bangor . She studied literature at Christ's College , Cambridge and arts management at City University London . She then worked as a freelance theater manager and director. During this time she worked on opera literature with students at the Royal Irish Academy of Music .

Career

From 2002 to 2005 she assisted the Glyndebourne Festival .

From 2004 to 2012 she directed the Touring Opera Theater Company in Dublin , which also toured festivals abroad. There she worked on traditional operas with young singers in English, such as Cinderella (2003), L'incoronazione di Poppea (2005), Bastien and Bastienne (2008), Don Pasquale (2011) or Die Kaffee Kantate (2011). Her production of Grigory Frid's monooper The Diary of Anne Frank, with director Ingrid Craigie, received special attention . Her production of Ambroise Thomas Oper Mignon (2011) was nominated for the South Bank Sky Arts Award at the Buxton Festival . In addition, she staged Freischütz at the Salzburg State Theater in 2010 , Così fan tutte in 2006 and Pietro Mascagni 's L'amico Fritz in 2011 at Opera Holland Park , where she was also present with Falstaff (2012) and Turn of the Scew (2014).

On September 1, 2012 she was appointed opera director of the Danish national opera, the travel opera Den Jyske Opera , in Aarhus , where she succeeded Giordano Bellincampi , who was active until April 30, 2013. As an opera director, she does not shy away from staging unusual operas in unusual settings. There she brought out the Danish premieres of Katja Kabanowa (2013) and Jules Massenet's Don Quichotte (2014). Così fan tutte (2014) provided her with an extraordinary directing concept in which she involved the audience in the plot. Her Jenufa (2015) performed in cooperation at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow and in 2017 at the Royal Stockholm Opera . I Pruitani (2015/2016) collaborated with the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff. Her staging of the opera La traviata at the Scottish Opera (2012) was recorded by the BBC.

From the 2016/17 season Annelise Miskimmon will be director of the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, Den Norske Opera & Ballet , with a new team: Administrative Director Nils Are Karstad Lysø and Music Director Karl-Heinz Steffens , formerly General Music Director of the Staatskapelle Halle .
