Anshelina Oleksijiwna Schwatschka ( Ukrainian Анжеліна Олексіївна Швачка , also Angelina Shvachka ; born July 17, 1971 in Dnipropetrovsk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Anschelina Schwatschka first studied choral conducting at the music school in Dniprodzerzhynsk . In 1997 she graduated from the Kiev State Conservatory of Music Tchaikovsky and in the same year became a soloist at the Taras Shevchenko Opera House in Kiev. Over the years she sang at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow , the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg , at La Scala in Milan , the Metropolitan Opera in New York , at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden , at the Bonn Opera House inVienna , Berlin , Stockholm , Helsinki , Prague and Warsaw . In 2006 she played the role of Catherine the Great in the film "Kosaken Beyond the Danube" in the opera of the same name by Semen Hulak-Artemowskyj .

Honors

In 2001 she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine for her significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian opera, and in 2012 she was recognized for her significant contribution to the cultural development of the Ukrainian state, her substantial work and conscientious work on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of Ukraine's independence Appointed People's Artist of Ukraine . In 2016 she received the State Prize of Ukraine from the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko for her achievements in opera productions and the promotion of the Ukrainian musical heritage with the Taras Shevchenko Prize .
