Anselm Ricker

Anselm Ricker OSB (born March 10, 1824 in Bratislava , † December 29, 1902 in Mayerling ; actually Josef Ricker ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic pastoral theologian .

Life

After attending the high school of the Benedictines of Pannonhalma and the philosophical classes in Bratislava in 1842, Ricker joined the Vienna Scots Abbey . He studied theology at the University of Vienna and was ordained a priest in 1847 . In 1851 he received his doctorate in theology . From 1851 to 1857 he was a cooperator in Pulkau , from 1857 to 1861 in the parish of Schottenfeld and in 1861/1862 in the parish of St. Ulrich . He then worked from 1862 to 1872 as a curate and preacher in the monastery parish . From 1872 to 1895 Ricker was university professor for pastoral theology at the University of Vienna, and in 1875/1876, 1880/1881, 1885/1886 and 1893/1894 dean of the Catholic theological faculty . In 1881/1882 he was the rector of the university. He served as prior in the monastery from 1881 to 1887 .

Rickers pastoral theological teaching activity was closely connected with active pastoral care. He was one of the first representatives of pastoral psychiatry ; He also wrote the first German-language textbook on this subject.
