António Sebastião Valente (born January 20, 1846 in Porto de Santa María , Madeira , Portugal , † January 25, 1908 ) was Archbishop of Goa and Patriarch of the East Indies .

Life

Antonio Sebastião Valente was ordained a priest there on May 25, 1872 .

In 1881 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. appointed Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Goa e Damão in Panaji . In 1886 he was made the first Patriarch of the East Indies, and at the same time he was appointed Bishop of Daman .

He was also in 1886, 1889, 1892, 1894, 1897 and 1905 member of the Conselho de Governo do Estado da Índia ("Government Council of the Territory of India "), the Portuguese colony in India .
