António Augusto Gomes de Sousa (born April 28, 1957 in São João da Madeira ) is a former Portuguese football player and football coach.
Career
Antonio Sousa started his career at FC Porto . In his first time in Porto he was able to win the Portuguese Cup in 1984 . During his first time at FC, he was called up for the 1984 European Championship in France . He was used four times and scored one goal. Portugal reached the semifinals.
In 1984 he moved to Sporting Lisbon in the capital . During the time in Lisbon , he was appointed to the Portuguese squad for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , where Portugal were eliminated in the group stage. Sousa was used three times.
In the year of the World Cup, Antonio Sousa returned to Porto for FC and stayed for three years. There he was able to win his first Portuguese championship title. Another cup success could also be celebrated. His greatest international successes also fall during this time. He won the 1987 European Super Cup , Intercontinental Cup and the European Champions Cup . He was not used in the final against FC Bayern Munich .
In 1989 he moved to SC Beira-Mar , where he was under contract for four years.
He then let his career end with Gil Vicente FC and Ovarense until 1995.
After the playing career
After his playing career, Antonio Sousa took on the coaching position at the lower class club Sanjoanense. In 1997 he came to SC Beira-Mar , where he then won the Portuguese Cup in 1999 as a coach. In the 2005/06 season Sousa coached Rio Ave FC since 2007 he is the coach of FC Penafiel .
