Antef (Gaufürst)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antef ( Middle Egyptian : Jnj-jtj.f ) is probably the progenitor of the 11th dynasty based in Thebes . In the list of kings of Thutmose III. in the Ach menu in Karnak he is listed as the predecessor of Mentuhoteps I. However, since this list of kings is not in chronological order, this can only serve as an indication .

supporting documents

Sources call his mother Ikui. He is believed to be the father of Mentuhotep I. Otherwise he is on a memorial stele of the Maat (today in New York ) from Dra Abu el-Naga of the 11th dynasty and a scribe statue dedicated to Sesostris I from the Karnak temple (Cairo CG 42005) mentioned. Further mentions of an Antef, such as a fragment of a stele from Dendera and a stele in Strasbourg today, are controversially discussed in relation to this Antef.

Antef is Gaufürst (Iri-pat-hati-a) of Thebes, and only his mention in the ancestral list of Thutmose III in Karnak one can assume that he was the progenitor of the 11th dynasty.

The stele of the Antef

According to Jürgen von Beckerath , the CG 20009 stele from Theben-West is likely to be his own grave stele . The name of the king, whose “darling” Antef describes himself on the stele, has not been passed down. Beckerath suspects one of the weak rulers of the 8th dynasty here.

According to Schenkel, the text of the stele reads:

“A sacrifice made by the king and Anubis , who is on his mountain, the 'Imut' (Jmwt), lord of the holy land; an offering for the prince, count, great head of the Theban district, the king's darling in the southern narrow doorway, the great pillar that keeps his (the king's) two countries alive, the high priest, who is with the great god, to the Lord of Heaven, blessed Ini-iti-i (Jnj-jtj-j).
