Antenne Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antenne Austria was one of the first journalistic private radio stations in Austria. The operating company was Medien AG, which owned the Antenne Austria Ost, Antenne Austria Süd and Antenne Austria West.

Antenne Austria Ost

The Antenne Austria Ost started broadcasting on August 1st, 1989 and broadcasted from Sopron with the frequency 102.0 MHz, which was rented by Radio Danubius, to Burgenland , the southeast of Lower Austria and parts of Vienna . Initially, the broadcast was only 8-10 am and 5-19 pm. The rest of the time, Radio Danubius was broadcast. From May 1990, the station switched to a 21-hour program and later finally to a 24-hour program. The program was produced in Vienna and sent via a postal line to Sopron, from where it was broadcast on the terrestrial channel. Post later cut the line and the studio was relocated to Sopron.

One of the problems of Antenne Austria Ost was the poor reception of the program in Vienna, where the greatest potential audience was. The reception quality in the Vienna area never reached the level of Radio CD broadcasting from Bratislava . As a result, there were problems with the acquisition of advertising orders, which led to a rapid deterioration in the financial situation and finally to the bankruptcy filing on November 11, 1992. Antenne Austria Ost had stopped broadcasting two days earlier.

Antenne Austria Süd

Antenne Austria Süd began broadcasting in 1989 and broadcast on the frequencies 104.2 MHz and 105.0 MHz from September in Carinthia and parts of Styria . The studio was in Camporosso (Canal Valley), the broadcast was from Monte Luschari (1766 m). Here, too, the operators had to struggle with technical problems; in some cases, competing German-speaking private broadcasters based in Italy broadcast interference signals on the same frequency. In the course of the bankruptcy of Antenne Austria Ost, Antenne Austria Süd got into financial turmoil and ceased broadcasting in February 1993.

Aerial Austria West

Since the summer of 1990, Antenne Austria West has been broadcasting with the studio in Sterzing ( South Tyrol ) and the transmitter at the 2749 m high peak of the Hühnerspiel on 88.85 MHz in North and South Tyrol. The reception in Innsbruck was rather poor compared to Radio Transalpin, Radio Tirol, Radio M 1. In the course of the bankruptcy of the other two antennas, Antenne Austria West was also discontinued in February 1993.
