The Hühnerspiel , also called Amthorspitze , is a 2748 m high mountain in the South Tyrolean part of the Zillertal Alps .
Location and surroundings
The chicken game is located in the southern Tux ridge of the Zillertal Alps between the Wipptal in the west and the Pfitscher valley in the east. The closest peaks in the ridge are the Rollspitze ( 2800 m ) to the northeast and the Weißspitze ( 2714 m ) to the south . In the summit area of the Hüherspiel there was a small NATO base with an antenna system until 1992 . The transmitter location, which was already used at that time, was reactivated at the beginning of 2020. The broadcasting company Südtirol broadcasts DAB + radio programs on channel 10B to improve reception on the Brenner , in Pflersch, in Jaufental and in the North Tyrolean Wipptal to Innsbruck .
Climbs
The Hühnerspiel is a frequently visited panoramic mountain and until 1991 provided space on its western flank for a small ski area that has since been abandoned. From Gossensaß to the west, a marked path leads over the west ridge directly to the summit. An ascent is often combined with other peaks in the nearer course of the ridge, which are connected by a steep path.
Surname
The original name Hühnerspiel goes back to an alpine pasture below the summit. The seldom used alternative name Amthorspitze refers to the writer Eduard Gottlieb Amthor , who was often a guest in Gossensaß.
