The Antermoiasee ( Italian Lago d'Antermoia , Ladin Lech de Antermoa ) is a mountain lake in the Dolomites in Trentino . It is located in the Rosengarten group in the municipality of Mazzin in Val di Fassa at an altitude of almost 2500 m slm .
It is a karst lake and the only lake in the Rosengarten group. It is located at the end of Kars Vallon de Antermoia and has behind a landslide , that of the da Lago Croda , dammed slipped and formed an about 4 to 5 m high dam. The Antermoia Hut is in the immediate vicinity of the lake .
The Antermoaisee is roughly triangular in shape. The bank is stony and on its rugged south-west side it slopes partly vertically. In snowy winters, snow fields and avalanche cones can be found here almost all year round . On the slightly more gently sloping northeast side, a hiking trail leads through a debris field with large stone blocks past the lake.
The lake is mainly fed by melt water and precipitation, which flows into the lake through the Antermoiakar. Because of this, the water level and the size of the lake are highly dependent on seasonal fluctuations, so that it can cover an area of 1.57 to 2.57 hectares. The Antermoia lake has no direct drainage. Its seepage water feeds a source below the lake, the stream flowing through the Udaital.
The bank is almost completely devoid of vegetation, only a few places overgrown with grass and moss on the northeast bank provide some green in the otherwise moon-like landscape. The water has a blue-green color and is very rich in plankton , even if the number of species is limited, which indicates a high ecological specialization due to the site conditions. Fish are not native to Lake Antermoia.
There are numerous legends surrounding the lake, including those associated with the person of Oswald von Wolkenstein .
