Anthocercis angustifolia is a plant type from the genus Anthocercis in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is endemic to South Australia .

description

Anthocercis angustifolia is an upright shrub that reaches heights of up to 2.5 m. It is moderately to densely covered with glandular trichomes , sometimes isolated, non-glandular trichomes are present. The leaves are sessile, the leaf blade is linear, rarely narrowly elliptical to inverted ovoid. They become 2 to 50 mm long and 0.5 to 6 mm wide, with the early leaves being larger. Plants from populations in the Flinders range often have smaller leaves. The leaf margin is entire, the leaf surface is hairy, the hair on the lower leaves is lost.

The flowers are solitary on 2 to 6 mm long pedicels . The calyx is 4 to 7 mm long. The crown is white to creamy-yellow, 19 to 28 mm long and is set with linear, 12 to 20 mm long corolla lobes. The stamens are 3 to 6 mm long.

The fruit is a broadly ovate-elliptical to pear-shaped capsule that reaches a length of 4 to 9 mm. The seeds are 1.7 to 2.2 mm long.

Distribution and locations

The species is endemic to South Australia and only occurs in scattered populations in the Adelaide Hills and the Flinders Range . The species grows in clay soils in rocky locations.

Systematics

Anthocercis angustifolia was founded in 1854 by Ferdinand Jacob Heinrich von Mueller in Trans. Philos. Soc. Victoria , 1, p. 21 first described . The type material comes from near Mount Lofty in the Adelaide Hills. The specific epithet angustifolia is derived from the Latin words angustus (narrow) and folius (leaf) and refers to the narrow leaves of this species.
