Anthonie Christensen , called Anthonore , née Tscherning (born July 5, 1849 in Copenhagen , † August 27, 1926 in Usserød ), was a Danish flower painter.

Life

Christensen was the daughter of the politician and officer Anton Fredrik Tscherning (1795–1874) and Eleonore Christine, née von Lützow (1817–1890), daughter of an officer. The father had been appointed Danish Minister of War in 1848; Her mother initially specialized in painting flowers, but switched to landscape painting before she got married. In addition to Anthonie, the marriage had a son Eilert (1851-1919), who became a surgeon, and daughter Sara Brigitte, married Ulrik (1855-1916), who, like mother and sister, became a painter. Together with her mother, Anthonie Tscherning traveled to Paris via Dresden , Switzerland and northern Italy in 1869 . In 1871 she married the classical philologist Dr. Christian Axel Richard Christensen (1843–1876), a brother of the landscape painter Godfred Christensen (1845–1928). With her husband she undertook a trip through Italy and over Sicily to Greece for archaeological and topographical studies , with longer stays in Rome and Athens . Her husband then gave lectures as a private lecturer in Copenhagen, but died after five years of marriage. Their son Axel Anthon Christensen (1874-1911), mathematician and librarian, changed his family name to Bjørnbo in 1901. Studies by Anthonie Christensen on the Swedish west coast are documented for 1898, as well as a stay in Munich ; In 1902 she stayed in Rome again. She died at the age of 77 in the hospital in Usserød, a district in the north of Copenhagen. Her urn was buried on Holmens Kirkegård in Copenhagen.

Anthonie Christensen was one of the most productive Danish painters of her time. As a child, she received instruction in drawing and painting from her mother, then from the flower painter Emma Thomsen (1820–1897). Furthermore, it was based on the work of Otto Diderich Ottesen (1816–1892). Early studies originated at Ørholm, north of Copenhagen, where she spent her childhood. In 1872/73 she received the Hjelmstjerne-Rosencrone-Scholarship; In 1887 she received the Neuhausen Prize (Danish: Neuhausens Pris) awarded by the Copenhagen Academy for her painting Kurv med afakaarne Blomster (basket of flowers). She left countless still lifes with a wide variety of flowers, leafy plants and flowering fruit tree branches in vases and in the great outdoors, occasionally with reference to the surroundings or the landscape. Her private pupils included Queen Olga of Greece and the Danish Crown Princess Louise , who later became the wife of King Fredrik VIII. Princess Dagmar, later Empress Marija Fjodorovna, took a painting with her to Russia as a wedding present. The Kunstmuseum in Copenhagen (Statens Museum for Kunst) acquired her composition with anemones, Valmuegruppe fra Strandmøllehaven from 1892.
