Anthony Civella

Anthony Thomas "Tony Ripe" Civella, Sr. (born February 17, 1930 in Kansas City , † February 14, 2006 in Phoenix ) was an Italian-American mobster of the American Cosa Nostra and for a decade the boss of his uncle Nicholas "Nick" Civella named the Civella family (Kansas City Crime Family) from Kansas City (Missouri) .

Life

Early years

Anthony Thomas was born on February 17, 1930 in Kansas City to Carl and Fannie Civella. On February 6, 1951, he married his childhood sweetheart Molly DeLuna and over the years they had five children. Molly was the sister of the later equally high-ranking bully Carl Angelo DeLuna .

In 1952 the first entry was made in his criminal record. As a young man he began working for the organization which at that time was headed by his uncle Nicholas Civella. His father Carl "Corky" Civella served as the underboss of the family and was thus the right hand man of his younger brother Nicholas.

Gambling and imprisonment

In 1981, Nicholas and Carl Civella, along with 5 other men, were charged with the illegal extraction of funds from the Tropicana Casino in Las Vegas and were convicted between 1983 and 1984. These events were also filmed in Martin Scorsese's casino in 1995 .

Nicholas Civella died of lung cancer in 1983 at the Federal Medical Facility in Springfield, Missouri . His brother Carl took over the management of the "family" and made Anthony responsible for running the gambling interests, which included the Tropicana , the Fremont Hotel and Casino and the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas.

In 1984 Anthony and his father Carl were also imprisoned and William Dominick Cammisano, Sr. took over the management of the family. In the late 1980s, Anthony was released and participated in the illegal sale of stolen prescription drugs on the West Coast ; this led to another prison sentence, which he began in the summer of 1992. While he was in custody, his father died of pneumonia on October 2, 1994 while he was still in prison. Despite an appeal to President Bill Clinton , he was refused permission to attend his father's funeral. Two years later William Cammisano passed away, Sr. and Anthony became the new boss of the organization.

Last years

Anthony was released from prison in 1997. During this time he was registered by the Nevada Gaming Commission in the so-called "Black Book Prohibiting Unwanted Persons in Nevada Casinos".

On February 14, 2006, Anthony Civella died at the age of 75 from a heart attack while playing golf in Arizona. It is believed that Anthony Civella's godson, John Sciortino , also known as "Johnny Joe", is the new boss of the family and William Cammisano, Jr. has been replaced as the underboss by "Las Vegas Pete" Simone .

His son Vincent F. Civella was sentenced to 8 months in prison and a $ 40,000 fine in March 2010 for an illegal internet gambling operation. His son, Anthony T. Civella Jr., was also charged with bank theft and money laundering in February 2014.
