Anthony Garcy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anthony Garcy (born June 20, 1939 in Ray , Arizona ) is a retired American weightlifter.

Career

Anthony Garcy began lifting weights as a teenager and moved to Chicago at the age of 19 to train with other good American weightlifters at the Duncan YMCA Gym there, but became a member of the York Barbell Club. The successes soon came. In 1960 he was the first American lightweight champion. He also started at international championships, but had the misfortune to land in the thankless fourth place three times at world championships and once at the Olympic Games. So his victory at the Pan American Games in 1963 was his greatest international success.

Anthony Garcy was a teacher by profession. His son Andrew also did weightlifting and became the American light heavyweight champion in 2001.
