Werner Dittrich (1972)

Werner Dittrich (born June 9, 1937 in Reichenau ) is a former German weightlifter .

career

Towards the end of the 1950s, Zittau developed into a stronghold of German weightlifting. It was three weightlifters from this region that the trainer Heinz Kahl led to the top of the world. In addition to Werner Dittrich, these were Manfred Rieger and Karl Arnold .

Together with Rudolf Mang from Bellenberg in the Bavarian Swabia, these were the first German weightlifters to become absolute world leaders after the Second World War . Werner Dittrich first became known to weightlifting friends when he was lightweight champion at the junior championships of the GDR in 1958 with 317.5 kg. He came from what is now Reichenbach, Poland, and did not come to the GDR until 1957 as a repatriate with his parents. In 1960 and 1964 he prevailed in the all-German eliminations against the West German Willi Kolb and Albert Huser and represented Germany at the Olympic Games. Although Werner Dittrich won several medals at European and World Championships, he was always unlucky at the Olympic Games and could not win a medal, although he took part four times. He was also very unlucky in 1965 when he achieved the same performance as Viktor Kurenzow at both the European Championships and the World Championships , but each time it was a little heavier than this and therefore had to be content with second place. His best performance in the middleweight division was 447.5 kg in the Olympic three-way fight.

Werner Dittrich was only 1.60 m tall, first lifted a lightweight (up to 67.5 kg body weight) and then grew into the middle weight (up to 75 kg body weight). He was a member of the BSG Motor Zittau and the SC unit Dresden and a locksmith by profession.
